This card serves as your official ID in Japan and must be carried with you at all times. If you plan to work part-time during your stay, you can submit an Application for Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted Under the Status of Residence upon entry. If approved, a stamp will be placed on the back of your residence card, allowing you to work within the permitted hours. |
| Residence Period | The residence card has an expiration date and must be renewed before it expires. You can apply for renewal at the Immigration Services Agency from three months before the expiration. Students with over 90% attendance will receive support from the school for the renewal process. Those with 89% or lower must handle the difficult procedure themselves. |
| Move-in Procedure (Address Registration) | Within 14 days after arriving in Japan, you must register your address at your local city/ward office. Once registered, your address will be printed on your residence card. |
| National Health Insurance | You should apply for National Health Insurance at the same time as your address registration at your local city or ward office. Everyone living in Japan is required to join the national insurance system. By enrolling, you will receive the same medical coverage as Japanese citizens, making healthcare more affordable during your stay. |
